If you are running Android Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy A5, you might be looking to gain rooting permission for the internal system. Although you’ll struggle finding many custom ROMs for this handset because it isn’t all that popular, you can still use all the same root-requiring applications that are available from the Google Play Store.

Rooting the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop can mean installing a custom recovery if you wish to head in that direction. We all know custom recoveries such as team Win’s TWRP and ClockworkMod recovery are how we flash zip; files. Without the zip file option for the custom recovery, we cannot load ROMs. That’s why we cannot use the stock recovery. Moreover, custom recoveries aren’t just awesome for installing ROMs; you can also take NANDroid backups from the menu. A NANDroid will take a complete snapshot of your current ROM which means you will have all data saved. We know how difficult saving data is. usually it requires several different apps from Google Play. With a custom recovery, we can just choose to apply the backup from within the recovery and you’re done with all data, including your pictures, music, video, phone contacts and even saved game data so you can pick up where you left off.

With that being said, you do not have the custom recovery, so you must backup the data you don’t want to risk losing before starting. That data might include the things we just mentioned above like phone contacts. Helium from the Google Play Store is popular for backing up application data. The built-in backup feature Samsung brings automatically is also popular for things like contacts. You can choose which way you want to go.

Correspondingly, backing up is important because you might want to take the factory reset after applying the root access. A factory reset is what’s recommended to get out of a soft brick or soft brick symptoms.

Those without that happening might need to install the USB drivers in which they skipped. otherwise, if you did download them, try rebooting the computer and seeing if that helps Odin register your device.
  8. Click the PDA or AP button found in the Odin menu and upload the rooting file from the desktop. You must have unzipped that package first to get the file.
  9. Click the Start button and Odin will now root your A5 handset.

Save yourself some time and check that it worked by installing the root checker app from Google Play. Now you know it’s done and can think about installing a custom recovery on your Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. Those not wanting a custom ROM can head directly to the Google Play Store and download those root-requiring apps you’ve been waiting for.
