The Verizon Galaxy S3 i535 is the US-based model. Naturally, there are lots of people rooting this device because there was a large amount of people who managed to buy it — being from such a big market. Once you have rooted the device you want to go ahead and install the ClockworkMod (CWM) on it, so you can then start to install some custom ROMs and enjoy the device like you intended. While on the topic of opening up devices, I did a post yesterday explaining not only what you can do with the device once it is rooted, but also what you need to do first to make sure you keep the device safe from vulnerabilities that have now popped up from the access. If you want to check that out you can find what I’m talking about specifics in the opening paragraph.
Most times we never shut up about backing up, but this time there is no need because there will be the opportunity to do so inside of the custom recovery image after you install the application. Make sure you take this chance to use it though, so nothing happens to your settings.
There’s a few things advised like a Windows-based PC and not a Mac. A lot of the times it’s just pot luck. There’s nothing wrong with Mac’s it’s just that sometimes developers don’t create their software to work on them because the market isn’t large enough for the to do so. It’s the same way a virus works. If there’s not enough people there to bother with then they don’t create one for it.
Enable the USB debugging by going to Settings> then check the box in here. Security in this case can pose a threat to use instead of helping because it blocks this kind of thing. We want to disable everything we have running. This is for both the handheld device and the computer because we will be joining the two to it very shortly.
Here’s a few things to remember before starting:
– Have 80 percent of the battery left.
– Install USB drivers for the Galaxy s3 i535.
– Root access already done for the S3 i535.
– USB debugging mode enabled.
Installing CWM recovery on the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon)
1. Download from the Google Play store the ROM manager app.
2. Once it is installed, open the app and browse the list for the flash clockwork-mod recovery.
3. Search down the list for the Galaxy s3 i535 and once you have found it, click on it to select it.
4. Confirm this is what you want to do and now the CWM will begin the installation process.
Don’t forget to take a copy of your EFS folder. It is just as important for installing a custom recovery as it is for root access. Harm this without having another copy and you will be in trouble.
