iOS 6 made its debut into the world when it was announced at the WWDC event earlier this week. Along with a decent sized list of features and improvements, we got our first look at the Cupertino-engineered marvel which will soon replace google maps.
The new 3D maps are sure to turn a few heads and for those lucky enough to own an iPhone 4S, will be able to access this new feature with the role out of the iOS 6 update or after downloading the iOS Beta. Unfortunately the later A4 devices seem to have missed the proverbial boat with this one and suspicions are pointing towards Apples oh so familiar marketing ploy of reserving new features for new devices. Much like what we saw last year with the release of the iPhone 4S and Siri.
Well to those of you who own an A4 device such as the iPhone 4 / 3GS or iPod Touch 4G, never fear. As with all new releases there have been Developers and Hackers working on a way to bring the new 3D capabilities to out A4 devices. We can thank iTony from iGuides, the Russian based apple site, for providing us with the means to enable iOS 6 3D maps on iPhone 4 / 3G and iPod Touch 4G.
How To Enable iOS 6 3D Maps on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 4G
First you will need to make sure you have Jailbroken iOS 6 Beta. You can do this using Redsn0w.
Also, download iOS Beta from the iOS Dev centre HERE
Step 1. You will need to download the .deb, you can do this via the link below
- .deb HERE
Step 2. Using either your device or through the SSH, open a terminal app and type the following:
apt-get update
then
apt-get install mobilesubstrate
Step 3. Then you need to put the .deb file into your iDevice
- For Windows you need to load in /var/mobile via WinSCP
- For Mac you need to load in Cyberduck
Then type:
cd /var/mobile
dpkg -i com.alpden.3denabler_1.0_iphoneos-arm.deb
Step 4. Just to err on the side of caution, it is best to reboot your iDevice to ensure the changes have been effective.
