Recovery mode in Android is a partitioned recovery console. Users can boot the Android in the recovery console and perform different actions that are not available from the operating system when booted in the normal mode. From the recovery mode, we can install official over-the-air software updates, repair the device, wipe the device and restore the device.
Handy third-party developers have created additional recovery partitions that people can install known as custom recoveries. These custom recoveries can allow users to install zip files which a stock recovery cannot. It’s with those zip files that people can upload custom ROMs and also get root access if there is a rooting method that allows it. Not all rooting is done from a custom recovery. However, many guides will direct users to upload a SuperSU zip file from a custom recovery; that’s how they get root access.
