A new firmware builds namely 9.2.A.1.215 is rolling out to people in Hong Kong for the Sony Xperia TX LT29i, and we anticipate the rest of the world to start seeing a notification informing them in a similar fashion very soon.
Sony haven’t released a change-log that we can find because the notice comes from this official XDA thread where am member posted about the new software update that he found. It is widely believed to carry bug fixes, enhancements and minor improvements, but nobody is expecting many features. It does have a new kernel and new base-band according to the post.
The TX LT29i is top-end smartphone that arrived in August of 2012, so it does have age. We see similar ages from Samsung such as the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 with Android Kitkat updates but sadly Sony didn’t give the same treatment to these handsets. From what I can tell this handset started with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and later updated to Android 4.1 and 4.3 Jelly Bean. I do not see any news to suggest this or any build before now stepped that up to Kitkat at all so this is still likely to be down on the 4.3 Jelly Bean area.
Although it is arriving OTA in Asia it still can arrive in a similar manner to other parts of the world. People can elect to wait it out and do that, making sure you keep your eyes peeled on the news for other regions, or they can use the file I’ve given below and install it direct. If you don’t understand how to install the file then, you should take any chances.
The new update namely 9.2.A.1.215 is rolling out to device owners in the Hong Kong region, and everyone there should receive a system notification alerting you that it is ready. You can either choose to begin the download or hold it off until later. If you want to install it further down the track go to Settings > About device and tap the software update button. Those of you who wish to download the file manually can do so from this link here: LT29i_9.2.A.1.215_HK.ftf
Make certain you get a full backup of the OS before you start the installation. The TX offers 10.8 GB maximum user storage which is ample space to apply a backup of contacts, photos, video, music and more. However many people use up the space and, therefore, may prefer to buy one of the microSD, microSDHC memory card options that store an extra 32 GB of space. Google Drive is also another way to store data and documents, and they currently offer 15 GB of free space in the cloud.
