The third-generation Motorola Moto G was always going to be a prime candidate for a custom ROM after rooting and installing a custom recovery — preferably team Win’s TWRP — first. The Motorola Moto G series has always been known as one of the best value for money buys shoppers will find right around the world. That should invite even the lesser experienced Android users to check out what customizing a device is all about.

If I could give one bit of advice for anyone new to the Android customization scene, it would be to make sure you know how to “unbrick” your smartphone before starting. The term brick is often known as destroying a device completely, but that is not true. Bricking can be referred to anything that doesn’t have your device working the way it should. For example, my phone in my hands now has some software-related problems when I open my messenger application and send text to the point where it starts typing by itself. That is what I would consider a bricked phone and I need to flash the stock ROM. Flashing the stock ROM on your device will be different to the way I flash the stock ROM on my own, so you should always learn how to flash that stock ROM to unbrick your device before rooting, installing a custom recovery and ultimately a custom ROM.

Motorola Valentine

A custom ROM will always be famous for its ability to upgrade your Motorola Moto G 2015 smartphone to newer versions of Android. Since the third-generation Moto G is still new, that reason isn’t there yet, nor will it be for quite some time with the way these Moto G smartphones continue to get updates. Luckily there are plenty of other reasons why people install a custom ROM, including getting a new skin, getting a new launcher, adding new features, debloating, having everything zip-aligned, additional speed, stability and much more.

The Motorola Moto G (third-generation) has some of the biggest names in the custom ROM and aftermarket firmware world catering for the device. You can choose to install custom ROMs like the official Resurrection Remix, Temasek’s, and the work from the Android Ice Cold Project. We expect there to be more custom ROMs made available for the Motorola Moto G 2015 shortly and we’ll add them to the list when we find them.

Note: Make sure you check what model number the custom ROM is made for from the download links. Whenever we create a post such as this one, it means the model numbers are all thrown into the same article. Don’t assume that all custom ROMs will work for all model numbers. Each download link will mention what model number the ROM is for somewhere on the page, either in the custom ROM thread title or the original post closer to the download link. If you still don’t see it there then have a read of some comments or leave a comment yourself if you aren’t sure, and the custom ROM poster or other people subscribed to the thread will help you out.
