Sony is doing the rounds for the Xperia devices as we speak and updating them with fresh versions of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. We just finished reporting on the Z2 and Z2 tablet that were receiving a similarly numbered software and today we can tell you that the compact variant of the Xperia Z3 is also getting in on the action with a new build namely the 23.0.A.2.106 firmware. Nothing is certain until we see the official change log released by the company, therefore we can’t guarantee what the newfangled software brings. We can tell you that 4.4.4 typically comes with International VoWiFi support , a revamped phone dialer, a new HD Voice icon, and lots of bug fixes including the Open SSL security scare from the previous 4.4.3 build. You should know that Sony have their own packages involved in the chocolate software too that are one-off specials for under the Xperia name. We may be seeing some of those deployed here too.

The number we are presenting with you today is going through the certification process by the PTCRB website. They cover all of the certifying in the United States. It does not tell us the exact date of the official rollout. We do know it is not happening yet, however it may start coming in as a notification to some users beginning in a few short weeks. That means we may see the fresh Android L 5.0 software released along with the Nexus 6 or Nexus 9 before users get the chance to install this build.

You can always navigate to the Settings application and click on the “About” tab followed by Software updates and finally the “check for updates” option. It will ping you back with the results on whether it is ready for installation or not. The roll outs happen in phases for all people so there is no telling when it arrives for individuals.

As soon as you start seeing the notice we’d love for you to come back and let us know what you think. Did it come with the bug fixes that you were suffering from. Is it all fixed now? We know that Android-based software is prone to bug just like any other OS is including Apple’s own iOS software. However, sometimes OEM’s vary in delivering the relief. Often people are left frustrated for long periods of time.

You may know that there is a tablet variant of the Z3 under the same compact name. We do not have any word if that is receiving an update coming shortly or not. Both devices in the compact series are relatively new to the wild and started out with KitKat software. That means they both retain a great chance of getting the innovative Android L that is coming with a great deal of new features.
