Thanks to a tip off we know that this firmware made its way to Morocco after first rolling out to German’s several days before. It is expected to go even further than that, and we can only assume that means to other parts of Europe before finishing up in a few weeks time or less. It’s hard to pinpoint where it will go from here until we find further evidence.

If people find themselves scattered someplace else in the world and can see the N8000XXUDNE4 update ready to be installed OTA for your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 device then please leave a comment so we can tell the readers. If you don’t want to update over the air and would prefer the manual method, I plan on making that guide soon after I write about it here. Check back to the homepage and see if it is up in a few hours time. Users also can download it direct from Samsung Kies and sync the tablet while you are there for backup.

Android 4.4 KitKat

The firmware is for the Model No. GT-N8000 and will boost the OS to a new version of Kitkat. It is the 2012 edition of the device that carries the same name through to 2014. The only difference is the model number. Look near the bar-code on the box to find the model number. The details are on a white sticker from the store. Otherwise, you can turn the tablet and navigate to settings ->About phone -> Phone identity to look for the number.

After originally starting out with the Android 4.0 TouchWiz / L!ve Panel UX UI nearly two years ago now, this update will receive a warm welcome by many who love to play with a new OS. Since the original Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it received 4.2 and 4.1.2. Speaking of new we are also in the know that Google plan on releasing Android 4.4.3 to the Nexus 4, 5, 7 and Nexus 10 very soon so it will do the rounds to other devices after that. Samsung is also being mentioned as a name that will get this update quickly to the S5 and the S4. It is possible it keeps going down to this tablet in time.

Some of the new features that we love with Android 4.4.2 include faster performance, smoother interface, full-screen album art, wireless printing and MFC tap to pay support. Moreover, it has white status bar icons, camera shortcut on the lock screen, Samsung Wallet, improved battery life, options to set the default launcher apps and messaging apps. It also includes the default messaging app changed to Hangouts. You also get a transparent status bar, better multitasking and more. For this specific update, it will be very much a case of wait and see because no changelog was given out.

This tablet comes with 16 GB of built-in storage space. For a tablet that is not much and if you have run out of memory space to backup before downloading this update you will need to buy one of the microSD, microSDHC storage expansion ideas up to 32 GB. The battery is not user-replaceable and after being used for two years it won’t last as long. Make sure you have sufficient battery stamina to get through the update before starting. Go to Settings > More > About device > Software updates to check if this update is ready to be installed or log on the Windows-based computer and check Samsung Kies.
