The Windows 7 operating system comes with a selection of accelerators that can help you use maps on Google Maps or Windows Live Maps, get definitions from Wikipedia, view your Hotmail email inbox, share content with LinkedIn, use Gmail, and more.
The following tutorial demonstrates how to install and uninstall an Internet Explorer accelerator add-on from Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 versions of the web browser.
How to Add/Remove an Internet Explorer Accelerator Add-on from IE9 and IE10
These accelerators are not installed by default. If you want them, you will need to install them from Internet Explorer. Here is how you can do that:
Note: Microsoft is no longer allowing the installation of accelerators. The link http://www.ieaddons.com/en/accelerators/ is no longer available, and if you try to install them from the Internet Explorer toolbar, they are not available.
To Add an Internet Explorer Accelerator
1. Open the Internet Explorer web browser.
2. Press the alt key and then click on View > Toolbars and enable the Menu bar and Command bar.
3. From the Command bar, click on Page and then hover the mouse over the Accelerators link on the drop-down menu and then click on Find More Accelerators. Doing so opens the http://www.ieaddons.com/en/accelerators/ webpage.
4. From the Internet Explorer Gallery, click on the accelerator you want to add to Internet Explorer.
5. Click on the Add button
6. Head back to Page > Accelerators and click Manage Accelerators.
7. The new accelerator you installed will be shown in the add-on sections for you to manage, along with the rest of your add-ons.
You can now continue using your Internet Explorer web browser if you like.
To Remove an Internet Explorer Accelerator
1. Open the Internet Explorer web browser.
2. Press the alt key and then click on View > Toolbars and enable the Menu bar and Command bar.
3. From the Command bar, click on Page and then hover the mouse over the Accelerators link on the drop-down menu and then click on Manage Accelerators.
4. Select the accelerator you want to remove and then click on the Remove button in the bottom right corner of the window.
5. When prompted by Windows, click on the Yes button to confirm you want to remove the add-on.
You can now continue using your Internet Explorer web browser if you like.
That’s all.
