Sony released a new firmware build of 12.1.A.1.205 to fix bugs found in the previous 12.1.A.1.201 build. Many users reported a flickering screen, but there will be no confirmation on what is inside this particular OTA because Sony provided no change log for us to observe. If you have updated, please leave a comment and tell us exactly what you have seen so the rest of our readers can see.
The new firmware namely 12.1.A.1.205 is for the Sony Xperia Sp that started off with Android 4.1 and was later updated to 4.3 Jelly Bean. The new addition continues on with the Jelly Bean even though we are will into seeing the final stages of Android 4.4.3 KitKat roll out to many devices now. If you are the master of this smartphone, there is zilch you can do about that. I would not anticipate a fresher upgrade instead since there is no telling when it will arrive if ever.
The SP C530X unveiled on the 18th of march 2013 and saw the eventual release date on the 30th of April. Given that is it somewhat new still it’s surprising to see it not have any Android 4.4 just yet, but the future should be promising.
You should always backup the smartphone before any update including an OTA release. Loss of data is not normal, but it can happen. To backup the application visits the Google Play Store and download Helium. If you have root access, we recommend Titanium but remember that root is canceled when installing new official firmware over the top. The SP comes with 8 GB of internal storage space so you can use that or the MicroSD card slot that can store an additional 32 GB of external storage. There’s no limit to the number of microSD and microSDHC cards you can buy so there’s no excuse opt lose any data. Store call logs, SMS texts, contacts, photos, video and music files plus anything else you don’t want to risk losing.
Updating over the air does not require a connection to a computer; therefore make sure you have enough battery power to see through the installation process. This device comes with only 10 hours talk time which is well below average. The battery has a capacity of 2370 mAh. Looking at those stats, I wouldn’t start this unless I had 60% battery power remaining.
To check if the new firmware is ready for all of you users can navigate to Settings -> About phone -> Software updates -> System updates or wait for the system notification to come in automatically. We are now in the advanced stagings of this roll out so everybody should nearly have it ready to go by now.
Being mainly for bugs and not feature-friendly I don’t expect this file to carry a lot of MB’s. Users can download this using the mobile data if they wish although we always prefer using a WiFi connection for quicker speeds and saving mobile data where possible.
Sony is a brand that have done lots of great things this year including leading the way with the new LG G3 technology with Quad HD display that they other brand will try and chase down. We assumed it would be a short reign at the top for the Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation but now there’s talk of them releasing another handset later this year with a Snapdragon 805 SoC which could keep them in the lead again.
