If you’ve had enough of using your Samsung smartphone with root access, you can easily turn back the clock and use it like it came out of the box by unrooting the handset.

The following guide will teach you how to unroot the Samsung Galaxy S5 G900I smartphone. The guide is also useful for people experiencing soft-brick situations, such as getting stuck in a boot loop, seeing a white screen, having an unstable ROM from rooting and so forth.

The Files You Need:

  • Download the Samsung USB Drivers on the Windows PC. These drivers will prevent your device not talking properly to the computer during the guide. If you don’t get the guide working, try rebooting the computer. Sometimes the drivers need a computer reboot for them to work.
  • Download the Galaxy S5 G900I stock ROM.
  • Download Odin 3.09 from our page. If that link is down, try installing Odin 3.07 or 3.10. All versions will work fine.

Unrooting the Samsung Galaxy S5 G900I

  1. Unzip the stock ROM file and the Odin file to the desktop of the computer.
  2. Run the Odin program by double clicking the executable file after unzipping.
  3. Navigate to the Settings > Developer Options  and check the box to enable USB Debugging Mode.
  4. Hold down the Power key for ten seconds and switch off the Galaxy S5 smartphone.
  5. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy S5 holding the Power + Home + Volume Down buttons at the same time and you should get to download mode. Those without download mode can press Volume Up at the warning screen.
  6. Connect the Galaxy S5 G900i to the Windows computer where you have the Odin and stock ROM firmware waiting.
  7. Click the AP or PDA button in Odin.
  8. Browse the desktop for the stock ROM file. You must have unzipped it first or it won’t load.
  9. Make sure the re-partition box is empty.
  10. Click the Start button and Odin will now flash your S5 with the stock ROM and remove the root access at the same time.
  11. The Odin tool should now say “pass” on the screen and the S5 will automatically reboot. Now you can unplug it from the computer and use your device without the root access.

Remember: you can no longer install any root-requiring apps from the Google Play Store or any other third-party sources. You are limited to using the apps with the factory restrictions applied.
