The third-generation Moto G has arrived, and so has a root-method for it. It was pretty quick for the Moto G – 3rd Gen to get a root method as usually it takes months for developers to come up with a root method for a device.

If you’ve already flashed a recovery on your phone, the guide below is all you need to root your phone. Go ahead and get your Moto G rooted:

Files You Need

  1. You must have unlocked the bootloader on your phone before doing this tutorial. Please head here to learn how you can do that.
  2. You must have a custom recovery installed on your phone. If you don’t have one, please head here to flash one on your phone.
  3. This method flashes the SuperSU package to gain root-access on your phone.
  4. Download SuperSU to your compute. Do NOT extract it, leave it as is.

Rooting the Motorola Moto G (2015)

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Copy SuperSU from your computer over to the internal SD card storage on your phone.
  3. When SuperSU is copied, unplug your phone from your computer.
  4. Turn off your phone.
  5. Reboot your phone into TWRP recovery mode. To do that, hold down Volume DOWN and Power buttons together on your phone.
  6. Select Recovery from the options appearing on your screen.
  7. Your phone should be in recovery mode now.
  8. Select install zip from sdcard in the recovery menu.
  9. Navigate to your internal storage and select SuperSU .zip to be installed on your phone.
  10. Accept the prompts and wait for it to install SuperSU on your phone.
  11. When it’s done installing SuperSU, reboot your phone by selecting reboot system now.
  12. Your phone should reboot.
  13. You should now be rooted!

Your Moto G – 3rd Gen is now rooted and has a custom recovery up and running on it to help you flash custom ROMs and custom kernels on your phone. Enjoy!
