The third-generation Moto G has arrived, and so has a root-method for it. It was pretty quick for the Moto G – 3rd Gen to get a root method as usually it takes months for developers to come up with a root method for a device.
If you’ve already flashed a recovery on your phone, the guide below is all you need to root your phone. Go ahead and get your Moto G rooted:
Files You Need
- You must have unlocked the bootloader on your phone before doing this tutorial. Please head here to learn how you can do that.
- You must have a custom recovery installed on your phone. If you don’t have one, please head here to flash one on your phone.
- This method flashes the SuperSU package to gain root-access on your phone.
- Download SuperSU to your compute. Do NOT extract it, leave it as is.
Rooting the Motorola Moto G (2015)
- Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
- Copy SuperSU from your computer over to the internal SD card storage on your phone.
- When SuperSU is copied, unplug your phone from your computer.
- Turn off your phone.
- Reboot your phone into TWRP recovery mode. To do that, hold down Volume DOWN and Power buttons together on your phone.
- Select Recovery from the options appearing on your screen.
- Your phone should be in recovery mode now.
- Select install zip from sdcard in the recovery menu.
- Navigate to your internal storage and select SuperSU .zip to be installed on your phone.
- Accept the prompts and wait for it to install SuperSU on your phone.
- When it’s done installing SuperSU, reboot your phone by selecting reboot system now.
- Your phone should reboot.
- You should now be rooted!
You did it!
