Last November, we saw the release of Android Lollipop, the 5.0, material design focused update to Android. It was an exciting release sans the fact that the Xposed Framework was incompatible with it. In case you don’t know, Xposed is a framework that provides the features of popular ROMs, without a need to install those ROMs. However, it does require a rooted phone and you’ll find many guides for that here on Tech Chomps.

Given the switch to ART runtime, instead of Dalvik, Xposed could not work with Lollipop. Now that the issue has been resolved, Xposed can finally run on Lollipop. rovo89, the main Xposed developer, just announced the official release of an alpha of Xposed that is compatible with Lollipop on the XDA Developer Forums. It’s still a few versions away from stability, hence the alpha label.

Xposed Lollipop

Unfortunately, not all modules are working on this new iteration of Xposed and not all Lollipop phones are supported, but these are temporary caveats that will most likely be dealt with in future releases. The addition of support for Xposed on Lollipop will surely increase the amount of phones using the updated OS, because a fair amount of people held off on updating to Lollipop given the lack of Xposed support. Be on the lookout for future updates and a guide on installing Xposed very soon here at Tech Chomps.
