The Galaxy S2 has been chosen next on the upgrade list, as long as it is the i9100 model. If you are living around the India region, you should receive this update over the air. If you are not within that region, you can still install it on your mobile by following this guide to do so manually. Today we’ll run you through all the instruction you needs to upgrade successfully. We also give you added information on what’s in store for you after you upgrade and give you a checklist of what you need to look over before starting to you can be satisfied with your experience.
Android 4.1.2 features
The new multitask window lets you open up two applications at the same time. They will each take up half the screen. It is good if you are watching sports and you might want to have the statistics in one half and the game in the other. There are also many other reasons that this is good other than what I mentioned. You might have a work thing that you don’t want to take off the screen, but at the same time you’re waiting for somebody, so you want to check out your interests. It’s easy to execute. Just hold down the back button, and a new taskbar type menu will appear down the left-hand side of the screen. The one thing that people who originally upgraded didn’t have going for them was that there weren’t many applications that were compatible in the beginning. If you are looking at this around December then just about all of them will be, so that’s great for you guys. It does pay off to wait a little while before upgrading for those kinds of reasons. Often people jump up to newer software, and they think it isn’t very good. They have trouble with apps working and so forth. It is because they haven’t even been submitted for the new firmware yet and because of that they have “bugs.” It also takes away from the good work that Google has done here because it is way smoother than anything we have seen out of them in the past. It blows Ice Cream Sandwich out of the water and the early stages of Jelly Bean too.
Details of Note
- The Galaxy S2 will be plugged into the Windows-based computer when you are using ODIN. There is no reason to have a lot of battery left before you starting for this reason. You should finish the guide with more battery power than when you started.
- If you are only trying to update manually because you don’t think it has arrived OTA for you yet, then head over to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and double check before you start. Sometimes it can be there, and you didn’t realize. If it is there, simply confirm the automatic installation instead!
- Enable USB debugging by navigating to Settings > About Phone > Tap build number 7 times until the develop option appears.
- The Samsung USB drivers need to be up to date for you to have connected the Smartphone to the Windows-based computer. You can download new ones here.
How to install XWLST Android 4.1.2 On S2 I9100
1. Download the Android 4.1.2 I9100XWLST official firmware. Furthermore, hit the ODIN link to get that tool needed.
We receive many skeptics over how this can make sense. We can assure you it does make sense. You need the ODIN!
2. As long as the device is turned off, you can put it in download mode.
3. Open ODIN that you previously downloaded.
4. With the USB cable the device comes with out of the box, connect the mobile to the computer desktop.
5. Look in Odin for the ID: COM port changing colour and saying “added.” We know the device picks up now.
6. Click the PDA button and upload the XMLST official firmware file.
7. Click the start button.
– Make sure that you double check Odin is showing the default settings. It should show Auto reboot and F Reset Time with boxes marked representing the on position.
– the repartition box is empty.
8. Remember to always right-click the USB symbol in the Windows taskbar and click on the green arrow that says ‘safely remove hardware’ when you hover the cursor over it. Now right-click > select the gray area >USB Mass Storage Device > stop button > select the flash drive in the ‘stop a hardware device’ section and click OK. It will now say ‘safe to remove hardware’ in a bubble that’s popped up on the taskbar.
Additional Information
Is there any way of confirming this? Yes, there is. Notice the added message appear in the ODIN window. Also, keep a lookout for a box turning yellow inside ODIN. These are two giveaways that you successfully connect. If it does not connect for any reason, it may be that you don’t have the necessary USB drivers. In that case, go back up to the top of this page, and I have included a link to our USB page where you can download the right drivers for your device.
Did things not work for you? That’s OK, don’t panic just yet. There are a few different things that you can try to help before going crazy. First, make sure no security programs are running. Anything that is anti-virus, anti-malware, or anything like that can be blocking what we are trying to do here. Firewalls are also notorious for getting in the way. It could be either on the handset itself or on the computer. Both need to be turned off for now. You don’t need to completely uninstall it or anything like that, but if you did already then make sure you don’t forget to install it again and protect your device when you are browsing the internet. In terms of just following this guide, there is no need to have anything else running at all. We are no threat to your systems. Just to be sure, it’s a good idea to close down any browsers you might have running in the background. If you need to save anything, then just bookmark the contents and come back to it later.
The other thing is, of course, the drivers. Make sure you are using up to date version of them. You might think you have them, but if they are the old ones, then this could also be a problem.
I’m a little paranoid and not sure if it worked. Is there any way I can double-check this? If you open up your lock screen and then go to the settings, scroll down a long list and stop when you see “about phone.” Click in here and then about halfway down the screen it should show you some numbers. These should match up with the numbers at the top of the article here. If it didn’t then, it was probably still on your old firmware, and you didn’t install this successfully. If that has happened to you then you have to start from step 1 all again. Look on the bright side, at least you will be faster at it now.
