The Galaxy S2 I9100G now can be updated to Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean by using CM10.1. The CM10.1 custom ROM is being passed around to a few devices lately including another article I just finished. CyanogenMod 10.1 looks like a great ROM to have. It comes with a range of super cool new features including lots of lock screen goodies, theme manager, phone goggles, incognito mode, and much more. If you are interested in installing this, then check the guide after the jump.

Make sure you have the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G USB drivers. You may have this already if you use the device regularly, in which case you can skip this step. This is necessary to connect the device to the computer, and to upgrade the official firmware.

You will also need to have USB debugging mode enabled to complete this guide. You can follow the link that I provided and find out how to do that if you don’t know already.

As always, we recommend you back up your Galaxy S2 before attempting this guide, just in case anything were to go wrong. Please also be aware that you will need to have your Galaxy S2 I9100G rooted before you can start installing custom ROMs.

Update Galaxy S2 I9100G To Android 4.2.2 With CM10.1

Step 1. Go ahead and download the CM10.1 ROM for Galaxy S2 I9100G cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-i9100g.zip and the Google Apps gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip.

Step 2. Using the USB supplied, connect the Galaxy S2 I9100G to the Windows PC.

Step 3. Transfer the files you downloaded onto the SD card of the phone. Make sure you don’t extract the files.

Step 4. Disconnect the device from the PC as your normally would with USB and then power down the phone.

Step 5. You will now need to boot the phone into recovery mode. To enter recovery mode simply press and hold power, volume up and the home button simultaneously  Wait until you see the screen flash before you let go of the buttons. Navigate using the volume keys and select using the power button.

Step 6. Now you will need to wipe the phone data. It is important to do this whenever you are installing a custom ROM. To get this done you need to navigate to wipe data/factory reset and select it. Then go back ot the main menu and select wipe cache partition. Wait for it to complete once again. Now go into advanced options and select Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Step 7. From the SD card choose the install zip from SD card option. Look for the cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-i9100g.zip file which we downloaded earlier and select it. Use the power button to confirm as you did earlier also.

Step 8. Now from the SD card choose the  gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip and install the Google apps pack.

That’s all you need to do. Now back track your way to the main recovery screen and choose the option reboot now. This will now reboot your phone. Upon reboot, your Galaxy S2 I9100G will now have Android 4.2.2 with CM10.1 installed on it.
