I had long wondered why in so many of my premium Windows 10 laptops I couldn’t seem to get them to go to sleep consistently. I have since learned it may be related to Cortana, and one of its default settings in particular, that allows her to keep listening at the expense of not having the computer go to sleep. If Cortana can continue listening, it means you can shout “hey Cortana” from wherever you may be and she will respond.

The following tutorial demonstrates how to turn on/off the Cortana Listen keyboard shortcut when using a version of the Windows 10 operating system.

You can change the settings for the Cortana Listen keyboard shortcut from the Talk to Cortana section of the Settings app. Here is how to do that:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Click on the Cortana category.

3. From the Cortana and Search left menu, click on Talk to Cortana.

4. On the right side of the same window, under the Keyboard shortcut heading, toggle on or off Let Cortana listen for my commands when I press the Windows logo key + C.
