The hard-working team at XDA Developers. Sony’s Xperia Arc has recently received the rollout of the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 firmware (also knows as v 4.1.B.0.587) and has vastly improved performance in the dialer/ video recording areas.

The nifty little Android touch phone comes complete with an 8MP Camera and 4.2 inch LCD display.

Details of Note

  • You will also need to have USB debugging mode enabled in order to complete this guide. This helps to connect your Android phone with the PC.
  • You will need to make sure you have the Sony USB drivers. This is necessary for when you connect the device to the computer. You have to connect it to the computer in order to root the device.

Before you begin please ensure the following things:

  • You are completing this process on a Windows PC (Windows 7 for best results). Unfortunately it is not designed for Mac or Linux PCs.
  • You don’t have any other adb you may have running in the background such as Flashtool, SEUS or PCC.
  • Disable any antivirus you currently have running on your device.
  • Your device has a minimum of 80% charge to ensure it does not switch off during the rooting process.
  • Your Sony Xperia Arc is running Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 firmware (v 4.1.B.0.587).
  • You have made a backup of your personal data.

How to Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Step 1. First you will need to download the following files:

Step 2. Once downloaded we will need to begin by flashing the kernel. Launch the Flashtool.exe you downloaded in step 1 by double clicking on it. You will be presented with on-screen instructions which you can follow to install it.

Step 3. Next you need to copy the Lt18i_4.1.A.0.562_Kernel.ftf file to your hard drive under C:\Flashtool\firmwares.

Step 4. You will need to launch the Flashtool and select the ‘Flash’ icon. If you are having trouble locating this, just look for a thunder symbol.

Step 5. From the options presented, select ‘Flashmode’.

Step 6. Select Lt18i_4.1.A.0.562 from the menu and then select ‘OK’. You will be given more on-screen instruction which will have you place your device into Fastboot Mode before asking you to connect it via USB.

Important: At this stage you MUST ensure the ‘No Final Verification’ boxed is marked

Step 7. Now reboot your Sony Xperia Arc.

Step 8. Now we need to root the device. To do this we must first ensure the following is enabled on your device.

USB debugging. To achieve this head to ‘Settings’ > ‘Applications’ > ‘USB Debugging’ and check the box.

Installation of non-Market apps. To Achieve this head to ‘Settings’ > ‘Applications’ > ‘Unknown Sources’ and check the box.

MSC Mode. To achieve this head to ‘Settings’ > ‘Xperia’ > ‘Connectivity’ > ‘USB Connection Mode’ > ‘MSC’ and select.

Step 9. Connect your device to your PC via the USB cable.

Step 10. Now we need to extract the DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su.zip that we downloaded in step 1 to a folder easy to locate such as one on your desktop.

Step 11. Run the DoomLoRD tool. Within the extracted folder you will find a runme.bat. Double click on this.

Step 12. Again you will be presented with on-screen instructions, follow them carefully. Don’t be concerned at the number of times your device reboots, it is normal during this procedure.
