The official PTCRB website certified a new firmware version for the Sony Xperia E1 smartphone. The build number is 20.1.A.0.48 and it comes for the D2005 model number. We suspect this to focus on bug fixes and potential security patches if ever released. You should know that certification doesn’t always lead to an eventual release. Therefore, check back later and we’ll fill you in with more details as they come available.

The Xperia E1 started with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box and later saw the Android 4.4 KitKat update. We know this update will still be under the KitKat name since Android 5.0 Lollipop is still not officially available for the Nexus 6 or Nexus 9. Android 4.4 KitKat is the largest update this handset has since it’s arrival. KitKat brought a great deal of features including improved Quick Settings and Status bars, a new launch animation inspired by the Play Station 4 interface, live wallpaper for Home and Lock screens, faster OS performance and a more stable overall UI. Furthermore, users can access over 280 custom graphics elements from Xperia Themes and revamp the UI.

Users can check for software updates wireless by navigating their way to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > System Updates. Additionally, some software becomes available to download via the Sony PC Companion. We’ll let you know more on how to download and install this one, plus what features it comes with when more information is available.

The last known official software release for the Xperia E1 is the 20.1.A.2.13 build.
