If you are the owner of the Sony Xperia E3 you should keep your eyes peeled for a new OTA notification from the Update Center. The PTCRB website have certified a new 18.4.C.2.14 software update for the device. As you probably already know, just because it’s certified doesn’t mean it’s coming out. However, if it does end up rolling out over the air, owners may expect to find the new installment anywhere from next week to some time over the next month.
The E3 handsets launched with Android 4.4 KitKat earlier this year. You may remember us notifying our readers that the same found the official Android 4.4.2 Kitkat arriving during November under the 18.4.C.1.36 build number. Since most of the large features of Kitkat including white transparent navigation bars, white navigation bars, immerisve mode, full screen album art on the lock screen, updates to the Easter Egg and new location menu, we aren’t anticipating many features coming with this build unless it’s a jump up to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4.
Most Android smartphones can tap the “download” and “install now” button on the display once the system notification arrives for the software update. Sony users have the luxury of updating via the dedicated Update Center app. Some installments roll out exclusively to the Sony PC Companion.
We love hearing when our readers are fining the new installment available. That way we can announce when the release is official and what features are inside. Those preferring to err on the side of caution will prefer backing up the data before confirming the file installation. That way if you are forced into applying a full factory reset you can load the data again. Note that we don’t expect to lose data by accepting official OTA installments by the phone carrier networks.
