The Sony Xperia Z series could see an original 10.5.1.A.0.292 firmware build coming soon after it passed through the PTCRB website several days ago. It can take days or even weeks until we see the release of the firmware build after it passes through this stage. You should know that not all certifications result in a release either so there are no guarantees this build see the light of day.

The update is certified for the Xperia Z C6602, C6603 and C6606 model numbers, Xperia ZL C6502, C6503 and C6506 model numbers, Xperia ZR C5502 and C5503 model numers and the Tablet Z SGP321, SGP341 and SGP351 model numbers.

Furthermore, we know that the Xperia Z, tablet Z, ZR and ZL smartphones are running the final stages of Android KitKat already after they received the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update before now. The aforementioned build number we are talking about here today isn’t the Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. It will likely come with some Google security patches, bug fixes, minor performance tweaks and not much else. Don’t expect a feature-rich update here since we know the 4.4.4 number doesn’t have much apart from a revamped phone dialer.

We will report further on this after it comes out and we learn exactly what the features are. OTA updates rollout in stages to everyone with the handsets. They do come as a notification to the phone’s panel alerting you when it’s arriving. However, you can still navigate your way to the Settings > About Phone > Software Updates can check if it’s ready for installing that way.
