In the news over the past few weeks has been a back and forth between a hacker known as P0sixninja who claims to have something better than a jailbreak in the works. It was all very exciting until a fellow hacker, Musclenerd dispelled any rumors of this being possible. It was because of the doubts we didn’t bother covering it, but it seems we could be wrong in assuming there was nothing coming. The reason being is because an open jailbreak website made by P0sixninja has just gone live, so it seems they do have legit plans after all.

Things have suddenly become very exciting again, and really, we were silly to ever doubt the works of Josh Hill (P0sixninja) who is an ex member of the chronic dev team and has been around the jailbreaking scene for a long time. He isn’t the type to just be going around looking for attention.

An open jailbreak effectively would be like open source stuff, which is made by the people, for the people. We are not sure if this is just going to be a plan to bring the guys together and equip them with a repository to work out of, or if they already have progress is creating something other than the standard jailbreak. As soon as we learn more, we’ll update the story.

If the open jailbreak scene does advance further it’s important to follow the safety guidelines first before getting too carried away. Always back up your iPhone from iTunes or iCloud. Now if you have to plug the iPhone into iTunes and restore the official firmware you can get access to your backed up data and put it back on the phone. To back up from icloud navigate to Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. To do it from iTunes, go to Choose File > Devices > Back up.
