A big day for Apple today with the release of iOS 6 and also OS X Mountain Lion firmware has now been updated to OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Apple are famous for releases several things all in the one day. It’s just the way they do business, but the release of iOS6 and OS X Mountain Lion simultaneously is even more understandable as Mountain Lion borrows many iOS features these days.
It’s a great time to be an owner of Mountain Lion as this is an update user’s will most certainly want to have.
The main new feature involved is the integration of Facebook into Mountain Lion 10.8.2 much like in the new iPhone 5. This means that all of your Facebook contacts will now appear in the contacts app and Facebook notifications will be integrated into the native notifications centre. The Facebook integration also lets users post status updates directly from the notification centre as well. Awesome feature to have, and it’s no surprise that it was coming with the social media boom, but perhaps now is a good time to drop your friends list down to people you actually know and like.
Other updated features include a revamp gaming centre that follows the same kind of social networking theme where you can now share all of your scores and gaming info with friends via Facebook and the likes of Twitter Emails etc. You can even send out an invite to come gaming along with you kind of like you would Xbox Live style. The other thing worth noting is that the infamous Facebook thumbs up will now be appearing next to the games so if you enjoyed a particular title you can now give it the thumbs up and let the world know.
That is the gist of things but of course there is more. Apple released a change log detailing all of the little extras you will find in the OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion release.
OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App store.
