A quick visit over to the Motorola Deutschland Facebook page will have your eyes wide open because yesterday they publicly said with writing on the wall that Android 5.0 is coming to the Moto X and Moto G (with hash-tags) sometime this Autumn. For Americans that will mean during the Fall.
The timing does make sense as I’m sure they will want to stifle Apple and not give them too much time to steal people’s hearts. At the same time, they have to give the Cupertino company some space not only for respect but because their Android L is not going to turns heads as much as the new iPhone lineup that is just around the corner before we see the unveiling.
The page and post are both in the German native tongue, but luckily for us the word Android, the numbers 5.0 and the device names are all written in English, so it doesn’t take a genius to find out what they are saying. An ingenious Google translation on the rest of the text did reveal it will be after the summer break we see this coming.
The news comes just days after we first heard the HTC rep explained that the same new software will be out for the HTC One M8 smartphone and also last years flagship in the M7. It’s unknown the one it will receive first.
The L software is going to take us to the next level in the green robot ecosystem, and it promises to give us a lot more than what the small incremental updates inside of the last chocolate KitKat build have. Nobody is expecting any huge feature to jump out, but some are saying it will be a big overall change. There are new animations to play with which to me sounds like some Easter Eggs. It will look more moderns; it will offer some UI changes; it is brighter and bolder all according to the announcement taken from the Google I/O event during the week.
As a refresher, all software version are given a new name under a treat. To date we have Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and finally the last KitKat. During the Keynote, they didn’t give “L” a name, and we aren’t sure if the name is coming at a later date on the official launch of it they are swaying away from the idea of using food names. If I can toss in my two cents, I certainly hope we aren’t moving on to letters instead because the Mountain View company want to be more professional or anything like that.
The standout for Keynote for me was Google not evening touching base with Google Glass at all. It is a product everyone has been waiting for years to see get a proper launch but due to what we can only guess is concerns of a major flop, they have decided not to mention it during the Google I/O at all. To avoid embarrassment and tarnishing the Google name they opted to stay away, and that can only mean big things for everything else. We know Android in the car later named to Android Auto is coming, a new Android TV is coming, new Chrome and Android Wear is coming but we are sure a big focal point is the new software coming as well so stay tuned.
