An original software update with the build number KVT49L.D85010f is rolling out for all AT&T subscribers using the LG G3 smartphone. Sadly this is not the Android 5.0 Lollipop update that is finishing up on the Nexus range and soon to hit others. The new software update is an innovative version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat and thankfully it does come with an official change log issued by the “Life’s Good” company which you can read here.

As you can see, the new update comes with Google security patches, a fix for the “no power on” problem, Mobile TV 6.0, stability improvements, removal of the Skyfire toolbar and an update to Google Mobile Service.

The newfangled version is rolling out over the air, so make sure you check the devices notifications panel. As always, we recommend you to use a stable WiFi connection instead of the mobile data since the WiFi comes with stability improvements. High traffic over the mobile network reduces the connection quality and can lead to freezing and factory resets before the update finishes downloading. The file size is 163 MB’s, therefore we know it will take time to finish installing. More reason to sort after the home WiFi when available.

OTA’s rollout in periods to everyone with the handsets, so it will arrive for some later than others. Many will already have the upgrade waiting and others can wait for days. Hit the “Download Now” option followed by “install Now” when you are ready. You can always stopover at the Settings > General > About Phone > Software Update and check if it’s ready that way.

CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park of LG electronics mobile states he wants to make it a top priority to bring the 5.0 Lollipop to the G3. We know LG committed to being one of the first in line. That follows on from reports that Poland are seeing the Lollipop OTA coming later this week. Since AT&T users in the US are only witnessing a new 4.4.2 now, we suspect it is coming at a later date.
