AT&T are busy updating several of their smartphones today. The standout among them is the Samsung Galaxy S4 which is witnessing an original Android 4.4.4 KitKat software update rolling out OTA. As long as you are a subscriber to the AT&T carrier network you will find a new KOT49H.I337UCUFNI1 update arriving to the notifications panel. After you see it on the phone’s screen you can tap the “Download Now” option followed by “Install Now” to update your phone. We always recommend using a stable WiFi connection instead of the mobile data plan. Therefore, if you are away from home it’s a great idea to put this one on hold and stopover at Settings > About Phone > Software Updates and confirm the process manually that way.
The new update raises the software version from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 KitKat. Coincidentally, the previous number came with the same build number, so if you are noticing earlier reports of this update back in September, that is the 4.4.2 version that comes with white stats bar icons, immersive mode, wireless printing, new Emoji for the keyboard and more. The 4.4.4 marks the final stages of KitKat and doesn’t come with as many features. It does come with Knox 2.0, Google security patches, bug fixes, enhanced OS that is smoother and faster than the last and more.
All OTA’s rollout in periods to customers. No two customers will find the installment ready for downloading at the same time. It can arrive for you already or you might be waiting several days. The more subscribers for this phone, the more potential you have for being unlucky since it can take longer to reach everyone.
Next on the list is the Android 5.0 Lollipop update that everybody is talking about today. We can tell you that Sammy have confirmed the upgrade is coming for the Galaxy S4. However, since it is an older device, don’t expect it to coming before many of the other big named devices that are also newer. Current rumors suggest Lollipop is coming during 2015. Don’t wait up for it in 2014.
