No sooner is the latest update iOS 5.1.1 officially released that  there is a Jailbreak method available for iDevice users. It is never long before some clever developer from the iPhone Dev-team prove that when there is a will there is a way.

MuscleNerd has confirmed that the latest update from Apple, iOS 5.1.1 can be Jailbroken on A4 devices using Redsn0w. This includes the iPhone 4, iPad Touch 4G and iPad 1. So if you have the updated iOS on your A4 iDevice and want to Jailbreak it, simply follow the guide bellow.

As with all tutorials, please back up your device via iTunes or iCloud  before proceeding with this tutorial. ConsumingTech will not take responsibility for any damage to your device or any loss of data that occurs.

The Guide:

Step 1. First you will need to download the latest version of the Redsn0w tool from the iPhone Dev-Team.

  • Redsn0w for Mac users HERE
  • Redsn0w for Windows users HERE

Step 2. Connect your iDevice to your PC via USB, now is a good time to preform a back up. Update the firmware to iOS 5.1.1 via iTunes if you haven’t already done so via an OTA directly on the device.

Step 3. You will need to download the iOS 5.1 IPSW file corresponding to the specific iDevice you are using.  Not iOS 5.1.1.

Step 4. Next locate an unzip the Redsn0w folder you downloaded in step 1. Launch Redsn0w by running the executable file.

Step 5. From the Redsn0w GUI, select ‘Extras’ and then the ‘Select IPSW’ option.

Step 6. You will be prompted to select the ‘IPSW’ file you downloaded in step 3. This is the iOS 5.1 IPSW.

Step 7. From Redsn0ws main home screen, select ‘Jailbreak’. Make sure that  you have selected the ‘Install Cydia’ option before continuing.

Step 8. Follow the on-screen prompts which will take you though how to put your device in DFU mode. Follow carefully as it is essential to the success of the Jailbreaking process.

Step 9. Redsn0w will automatically begin the rest of the Jailbreak process when it detects the device is in DFU mode. Don’t be alarmed if you see unfamiliar white  lines of text on your device’s screen.

Step 10. Your device will reboot and you should be able to see the Cydia icon on your home screen. This means the Jailbreak has been successful.
