Technically, the name to this is a Smartphone, but the sheer size of it has it more compared with a phablet. This is an example of how much this handset coming up has leaked already, so it’s almost a certainty it will begin hitting stores.
Reports state that this mobile could be running Android 4.2.2 out of the box, have a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 and be equipped with a quad-core 1GHz Marvell processor.
Rumor has it that before the date ticks over to the 20th of January, this new device could be launched. It hasn’t been said where it is heading, but there is talk of them aiming their products specifically on emerging markets instead of already developed ones. This is becoming a trend which we have mentioned several times for different companies over the last few days.
HP is a household name in the tech industry, I’m even typing this on one of their laptops as we speak, but when it comes to Smartphones we have seen almost nothing from them at all, other than the Veer 4G, PRE 3, PRE 3 GSM and who could forget the fantastic Palm Treo version. None of these was anything spectacular and targeted the low-end markets themselves. That could be a cause for concern when we think what might be coming this time around.
In the middle of 2013 when the Americans go back to school after the long summer time break, HP announced super-cheap $99 tablets. These were a hit. Before that, they were in the news for coming up with a 3D screen that would create better viewing angles. Of course, we saw this eventually being what we know now as curved displays.
At the start of 2013 it was desperate times as HP began selling off business units. Things then picked up when Ray Ozzie switched over from Microsoft to HP to help get things back in shape
