Unrooting Android devices is how we return them back to the stock operating system, otherwise known as a stock ROM. Samsung devices are some of my favorites to do this with thanks to the easy Odin flashing tool that works wonders with Windows PCs.

The one downside is that Samsung knows their devices are popular to flash with a custom recovery, custom ROM and root access, so they have added an extra Knox security. With Knox security, you cannot send it away for free repairs, even if you have unrooted. They call this ‘tripped Knox’.

Unrooting The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Asia-Pacific

  1. Unzip the stock ROM to the desktop.
  2. Click, drag and drop the stock ROM from the folder over to the desktop.
  3. Unzip the Odin tool we are using to flash that stock ROM.
  4. Double-click and run the Odin tool. You’ll see the program after you unzip the folder.
  5. Enable the USB Debugging Mode by pointing to the Apps > Settings App > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  6. Long-press on the Note 4 Power button and it should turn off.
  7. Hold the Home + Power + Volume Down buttons and it will get to a warning screen.
  8. Let go of the three buttons you were holding and just press the Volume Up button.
  9. Your Note 4 will now get past that warning screen and it will be in the download mode.
  10. Connect the Note 4 to the Windows computer with the USB cable you use for charging.
  11. The ID: COM port should change color from in the Odin tool. Those who do not see any color will need to install the Samsung drivers/reboot the computer to get the drivers working.
  12. Click the AP button found in Odin and browse the desktop for the stock ROM file. Click the PDA button if you do not see any AP button. They both are the same button just worded differently depending on your version of Odin.
  13. Click the Start button and Odin will now flash that stock ROM on your device.
  14. Do not touch any buttons until Odin gives the pass message on the display.

Find out if the guide worked by installing the root checker app from the Google Play Store. It should say you do not have root access anymore.
