If you bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in new Zealand and want to unroot the smartphone, you can do that by following the guide after the jump.

Once you take the root access away, you will no longer be able to install any of the root-requiring application from the Google Play Store like you could before. Those of you who have installed a custom recovery, should find the stock recovery in the same folder as the stock ROM. You can flash that stock recovery separately and give your device the stock Android ROM and stock recovery.

The Files You Need

  • Download the Galaxy Note 4 stock ROM from Samsung-Updates.
  • Download any of the Odin versions from this page. We recommend using Odin 3.07 or above.
  • Download the Samsung USB Drivers on the computer.
  • You must have a Windows PC to use this guide. The Odin flashing tool only works with Windows. Do not try this guide on a Mac or Linux computer.
  • These are the steps to unroot the New Zealand Samsung Galaxy Note 4. All Note 4’s from the country come with the model number SM-N910U.

Unrooting The Samsung Galaxy Note 4

  1. Unzip the Odin flashing tool to your computer.
  2. Run the Odin app and leave it open on the computer.
  3. Unzip the Note 4 stock ROM.
  4. Click and drag the stock ROM executable file from its folder over to the desktop.
  5. Check to see if you have the Developer Options menu from the Settings. Head to the Apps > Settings App > Developer Options. Not there? Go to the Settings > About Device and tap over the build number until it’s unlocked.
  6. Check to see that USB Debugging Mode is enabled. Head to the Apps > Settings App > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  7. Long-press the Power button until you know the Samsung Note 4 device is completely off. It can be as long as ten seconds for some Samsung devices.
  8. Reboot the Note 4 holding the Volume Down + Home + Power buttons.
  9. Release the Home + Power + Volume Down combination and press the Volume Up button when you see the warning message on the mobile devices display.
  10. Connect the Samsung smartphone to the computer now with the USB cable.
  11. Wait for the ID: COM port in Odin to change color. The color change means that Odin does detect your device and the drivers are working.
  12. Click the AP button in Odin. If you don’t see AP, you will see PDA. They both mean the same thing.
  13. Browse the desktop for the stock ROM you moved there earlier.
  14. Wait until you see the file extension of that stock ROM showing in Odin.
  15. Click the Start button and Odin will now flash that stock ROM on your device.
  16. The version of stock ROM that is on your device doesn’t matter too much, so long as you are back to the stock ROM. If your device has received future OTA updates, they will start arriving over the air for your device to install once it detects your device is running an older version.

Download the root checker app on your Note 4 and check that the guide worked. It should confirm that you no longer have any root access.
