If you want to send the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 away for free repairs under warranty, you better not have root access. While some people will claim they have had their devices repaired with root access, Samsung will tell you it’s against company policy.
Thankfully, unrooting the Note 4 is as easy as following the short guide after the jump. Once you finish the guide, you will no longer be able to install any of the root-requiring apps from the Google Play Store.
The Files You Need
- Download the following links directly to the Windows computer.
- Download the SM-N910G stock ROM from this page.
- Download the Samsung USB Drivers.
- Download the Odin app you are using to flash the stock ROM.
- These are the steps to unroot the Australian Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with model number SM-N910G. Every Note 4 in that country has the same model number.
- You can only use this guide on a Windows PC. Anything from Windows XP and up should work fine. However, the Windows RT on some Microsoft Surface tablets is not compatible.
Unrooting The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910G (Australian)
- Unzip the Odin flashing too land run it on the computer. Leave it open.
- Unzip the stock ROM for the Note 4 on the desktop. You should see the executable file in a folder after you have unzipped the file.
- Transfer that stock ROM file over to the desktop by clicking and dragging it. Then just drop it on the desktop.
- Check USB Debugging Mode is enabled on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Settings > Developer Options > check the box that says USB Debugging Mode.
- There is no Developer Options menu from the Settings? It needs unlocking. Head to the Settings > About Device and tap the Build number 7 times.
- Power off the Note 4 by long-pressing the Power button until it’s off.
- Reboot holding these keys to get you in download mode: Volume Down + Power + Home buttons.
- Let go of the three button combination when you see a warning screen.
- Press the Volume Up button and you will get past that warning screen.
- Connect the Note 4 to the computer with the USB cable.
- Watch the ID: COM port change color in the Odin app if everything is connected well. If not, you should download the Samsung USB Drivers/reboot the computer and see if that fixes the problem.
- Click the AP button and upload the stock ROM that’s on the desktop. Check for a PDA button if you cannot see the AP button. The letters change depending on the Odin version.
- Click the Start button found in Odin.
- The official firmware is now flashing on your device.
- Do not touch any buttons until you see the pass message on the Odin screen.
Prove it works by installing the root checker app from the Google Play Store. Install the app on the Note 4 and it will tell you if the device has root access.
