By rooting the Symphony Xplorer smartphone, you open the internal file system so it can install more apps. The Android operating system in your Xplorer W71i device comes locked down by Google so you can only install apps that don’t require root file permissions.

They do this to give your device added security. However, many of the best apps need the root file system permissions to work and that’s why you must root your device if you are not an Android rookie.

Files You Need

  1. Download the Framaroot one-click rooting APK from this page.
  2. You are not relying on a computer to root the Symphony device and therefore you must make sure your device has enough battery power to last through the flashing of the root exploit. Do not start unless you have at least 40% battery power.

Rooting the Symphony Xplorer W71i

  1. Download the Framaroot APK file directly to the computer and have it on the desktop.
  2. Make sure you have the Unknown Sources option checked by navigating to the Menu > Settings > Security > Unknown Sources.
  3. Make sure you have the Developer Options unlocked: Menu > Settings > About Device > tap the build number 7 times
  4. Make sure you have the USB Debugging Mode enabled: Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  5. Connect the Symphony Xplorer W71i to the computer using the USB cable.
  6. Transfer that Framaroot APK file still zipped over to the root of the SD card. The root of the SD card means keep it sitting on the topmost folder and not in one of the sub folders.
  7. Unplug your Symphony from the computer and the USB cable.
  8. Install the APK file as you normally would on an Android device: how to install any APK file on an Android device.
  9. Next, you might want to know The best file managers for Android to transfer your APK files.
  10. Once you have the Framaroot APk on your device, tap and open it from your app drawer.
  11. Choose the Boromir exploit option from the apps main page.
  12. Wait for the Boromir exploit to root your device.
  13. Soon you will see the Exploit Success message on your devices display and you can exit the app.
  14. Reboot your Symphony device before doing anything else.

Now you are free to install many of the great apps available from the Google Play Store that you couldn’t otherwise install like the Tasker application.

Start with the root checker application so at least you know that your device is rooted. It helps your troubleshooting if you go to install a root-requiring app and it doesn’t work. Now at least you know that you can rule out the root exploit from the list of potential problems.
