When you root the Samsung Galaxy J5 device you are agreeing to give application access to your root file system. That means you can run more apps like the Device Control application.

The Device Control app is just one example of a great app available for rooted users and it can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. It doesn’t take much to know what the Device Control app does for your Samsung smartphone. It’s best to test out the Device Control app and see for yourself. You can find the direct Google Play link for the Device Control app available at the end of the post.

The Files You Need

  1. You must unlock the Samsung Galaxy J5 bootloader before you start this guide. Applying the steps with a locked bootloader will brick the device.
  2. Download the Samsung rooting file for the J500H from this page.
  3. Download the Samsung USB Drivers for the Developers page from this page.
  4. Download the Odin flashing package from this page.
  5. Applying these steps to root the Samsung Galaxy J5 on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update does void the warranty. Only the Samsung devices with Knox security do not get the warranty back again by unrooting.
  6. You must have a Windows PC to complete these steps.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy J5 (SM-J500H) on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

  1. Download the Odin and rooting file directly to your computer.
  2. Open the Downloads folder or the location of your file and drag it over to the desktop. By default on most Windows operating systems, that is going to end up in the Downloads folder.
  3. Once on the desktop, right-click the mouse on top of the files and choose the ‘extract here’ option.
  4. On your J5 phone, press the Power button once and select the Switch Off option from the Device Options menu.
  5. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy J5 smartphone in the download mode. Do that by pressing the Power + Home + Volume Down.
  6. Press the Volume Up button and then your J5 device is ready to connect to the computer.
  7. Connect the Galaxy J5 to the computer and wait for the ID: COM port to change colors. that means your USB Drivers are working. If you know the drivers are working but you still face problems with it not flashing, try installing a different version of the Odin flashing tool.
  8. Click the AP or PDA button you see from the Odin user-interface.
  9. Upload the CF-Root file from the desktop of the computer.
  10. Leave the default settings as they are in the Odin user-interface. These are the default settings when you download a fresh version of Odin on your computer.
  11. Click the Start button.
  12. Wait until the Odin user-interface gives you a pass message and your J5 device reboots.
  13. Now you can regain control of your Google account and start installing root apps from the Google Play Store. You will also find some owners of the rooted apps have their own website and give APK links coming from those websites and not the Google Play Store. Just make sure you are looking at the official website and not a fake website with malware.
  14. Download the Device Control application from the Google Play Store and kick off your rooted Android experience.
