Once you unlock the bootloader on the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone, you can start flashing a custom recovery, custom ROM and get root access. Without the bootloader unlocked, you will probably brick the device. What most people don’t understand is that by giving your device root access you are returning the Android OS back the way it was before Google touched it. That means you aren’t doing anything bad; you are just returning it the way it should be.

Google locks the operating system so your devices don’t have root access. They do this on purpose because it offers additional security. The reason the security changes is with root access the apps from the Google Play Store have a far greater chance of reading each others data. Since malware and malicious files are most commonly swapped from applications, you could imagine what the security would be like with the entire world having root access and clicking the wrong files. From that point of view, we can understand why Google did what they did. However, for those of you who know what to click and what not to click on the Google Play Store, you can have much more fun with a device that has access to the root file system. That’s what we call root access on the Android operating system.

The Files You Need

  1. Download the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 rooting bundle from this page.
  2. Sometimes a device doesn’t take to a particular version of the Odin flashing tool too well. If your Galaxy Grand 2 doesn’t work with the Odin found in the bundle, you can download one of the other Odin versions from this page.
  3. Download the Samsung USB Drivers from the official Samsung Developers page found on this page.
  4. Applying these steps will void the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 warranty. If your device doesn’t come with Samsung’s Knox security, you can get the warranty working again by unrooting the device. All of you can unroot the device, but only those without Knox get the warranty working again.
  5. You need to have the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 bootloader unlocked to apply these steps. Attempting to root a Samsung device with the CF-Root tool by Chainfire will brick the device if you do not have the bootloader unlocked first.
  6. You can only follow this guide using a Windows PC. It doesn’t work for any of you who are running Linux/Ubunut or Mac OS X.

  9. Browse the desktop for the CF-Root file that you should have after you extracted the rooting bundle.
  10. Click the Start button and wait for the flashing tool to flash that CF-Root file on your device.
  11. You know it’s done when you get the pass message in the messages box and your device automatically reboots.
  12. Download the root checker app and install it on your device like you would any other app. Check that it says your device is rooted.
  13. Now you are ready to install any of the root-requiring apps from the Google Play Store like the Flashify app.

That’s all.
