ClockworkMod Recovery might no longer be active, but it’s still one of the best custom recoveries in the world to install on your device if yours has it available. Koushikl Dutta, the founder of ClockworkMod, is an incredibly talented developer who has made many things and not just CWM Recovery itself. He’s also the guy behind the original SuperUser and SuperSU. Like SuperUser, it seems ClockworkMod is being left behind by the TWRP Recovery and he’s allowing that recovery to take over most devices because it’s better.
With all that said, not every device has TWRP available and CWM is still a very capable recovery if you must install it on your device. Many people even prefer it — and not just because they are loyal to the same name they have been using for many years. CWM Recovery was the original recovery that started it all back in the day.
Files Required
- Download the ClockworkMod Recovery file for the Galaxy A8.
- Download one of the latest versions of the Odin flashing tool from here.
- You are voiding the Samsung warranty when you choose to install a custom recovery image over the stock recovery on your Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone. You can always flash the stock recovery on your A8 device later and the warranty will work again.
- You can flash ClockworkMod Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone running any firmware version.
How to Install CWM Recovery on Samsung Galaxy A8 SM-A800F
- Extract the CWM Recovery for the Galaxy A8 and the Odin flashing tool files to the desktop of the computer.
- Right-click on the Odin executable and choose to run the app as an administrator.
- Look at the Odin user-interface and turn off the Auto Reboot option so your device does not reboot when the flashing is complete.
- Enable the USB Debugging Mode on your Samsung Galaxy A8 device.
- Turn off the Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone and reboot it to download mode.
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone to the computer with the USB cable.
- Wait for at least a few seconds and the ID: COM port from the Odin user-interface should turn a green color. If yours does not change color, you need to install the universal ADB driver for your Windows computer and try again.
- Click the AP button or the PDA button and browse the desktop for your ClockworkMod recovery file you are about to flash.
- Click the Start button from the Odin app.
- Fill time until you see the pass message on the Odin app and your Galaxy A8’s display stays on.
- Reboot the Samsung Galaxy A8 and press the hardware key combination for recovery mode as soon as it turns on.
In conclusion, that’s how to install CWM Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A8 SM-A800F smartphone using the Odin application. It must first time boot directly to the recovery mode or else it runs the risk of being overridden by the stock recovery. Once you see CWM on your display, feel free to boot your device back into normal mode and use your device. Alternatively, you may continue using your new custom recovery and its features like the NANDroid backup button to take a complete backup of your data.
