If you think the stock ROM on your LG G Pad 10.1 just doesn’t cut it for you, you can go ahead and flash a custom ROM on your device. With the availability of root-access and a custom recovery, your LG G Pad 10.1 can now be flashed with the custom ROM of your choice.

Custom ROMs are developed in such a way that they give you a better feel than the stock ROM on your device and improve the performance of your device using a custom kernel. There’s a lot that these ROMs bring for you and the best way to find (or to experience) those things is to flash a custom ROM for yourself.

LG G Pad II 10.1

Before you can flash a custom ROM, here’s how to flash a custom recovery on your LG G Pad 10.1:

Files You Need

  1. Your device must be rooted before you can do the following tutorial. Please head to our how to root the LG G Pad 10.1 tutorial to learn how you can root your device.
  2. This should flash TWRP touch-based recovery on your device.
  3. Download TWRP Recovery to your computer.
  4. This tutorial should only work for the V700 model of the device.

Installing a Custom Recovery on the LG G Pad 10.1

  1. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. Make sure your device can receive files from your computer.
  2. Rename the TWRP Recovery image to twrp.img by right-clicking on it and selecting Rename.
  3. Copy this twrp.img from your computer over to the internal SD card storage on your device.
  4. When twrp.img is copied, disconnect your device from your computer.
  5. Launch Google Play on your device and search for and tap on Terminal Emulator.
  6. Install the Terminal Emulator app on your device.
  7. When the app’s installed, launch it from your app drawer.
  8. Type in the following command into Terminal Emulator and press Enter:
    su
  9. Now, type in the following command and press Enter:
    dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
  10. Wait for it to install TWRP Recovery on your device.
  11. When it’s done installing recovery, reboot your device.
  12. You’re all done!

Your LG G Pad 10.1 has been successfully equipped with TWRP Recovery and you can reboot into this newly installed recovery using the Quick Boot app.
