Sometimes, whilst tweaking and playing around with your Android device, you get carried away so much that you don’t even recognize your device. What to do now? Well, you can do a wipe procedure know as a hard rest (Both hard rest and the factory rest mean the same thing). Yes, you can wipe all the data from your device and it will be restore to its first factory settings.

A slight disadvantage of this process is that it wipes away every single thing! But, it’s pros are more than the cons. If your device is running slow, which is due to potential lags or bugs. If you apply the factory rest, the cache is complete wiped off granting you relief from all those bugs and malware. Factory rest is also crucial while updating your Samsung Galaxy J to a custom ROM. The process is also advised if you are selling your Samsung device to a stranger; don’t want him to get your personal information, now do we? Factory rest also helps to eliminate certain annoying issues like screen freeze, total black out, over heating and boot loops.

As mentioned above, the process completely wipes off everything. So, I recommend you to back up all your data either on a PC or the Cloud. The process is an official one, meaning that after performing this procedure the warranty of your device will not be voided unlike with rooting or flashing.

Method 1

We will use the recovery method in this method. This method is advised to the developers or if you have to reset your device before/after/during the rooting procedure.

  1. Turn off your phone completely. You can do that by either pressing the power button and selecting the “Power Off “ option on the display or by pressing the power button long enough till your device completely shuts down
  2. Now, press and hold the Home, Volume Up and Power buttons all at the same time till the recovery menu appears on the screen.
  3. Use the Volume rockers to navigate and go to the “Wipe data/factory reset”> “Wipe Cache Partition”. Press the power button to select it.
  4. When your phone has been reset, use the volume rockers and go to the “Reboot System Now”. Press Power button to select.

Method 2

This method is relatively common and easy. Use this method if your phone is behaving badly. For this method, go to Menu>Settings>User & Backup> Factory data rest. The device will ask for your confirmation. Agree to all that and your device will shut down, rest to the factory options and then restart.
