While the Android open source community is known for producing many amazing custom recoveries the expert Android users like to use for hacking, the Motorola Moto G 2015 also comes with a stock recovery mode. This stock recovery mode is accessed by a separate bootable partition that automatically comes with the device when you buy it. By pressing some hardware keys on your Motorola Moto G, you are able to access the recovery mode. Once you are in the recovery mode, you can apply a factory reset on the device, apply updates from ADB, reboot the system and wipe the cache partition. All facets of the recovery mode are important for recovering the device.
The easiest method to try to fix bugs and lag is to apply software updates. Normal Android users can find the check for software updates available from the About Device menu from the Settings. The Settings for that is not in the recovery mode. If you check for updates and there is no update available, you can enter the recovery mode and try wiping the cache. The cache partition is where all the temporary system data is stored. That data is mainly due to app installation. Once you wipe the cache, your apps will remain, but you can fix problems with the operating system by wiping the cache. If wiping the system cache doesn’t fix your issues, it’s best to apply a factory reset. Just remember to back up your device from outside the recovery mode before applying a factory reset. A hard reset does wipe the data clean so the Motorola Moto G is the same way you found it out of the box.
While we do love Motorola as a brand, accessing the Motorola recovery mode would have to be one of the more difficult tasks out there in comparison to other manufacturers. You must understand that it’s designed to not be easy to enter recovery mode because people like your kids could accidentally access the area and wipe your data if they didn’t know any better. That’s why every manufacturer of a smartphone gives a unique key combination to get in the recovery mode that typically won’t ever be accessed by accident. The problem with Motorola’s recovery mode is that it’s darn difficult to get access to for most devices, even when you try your best. Once you get the hang of how to do it, you will have no problems in the future. The latest 2015 edition of the Moto G is changed so that it is easier and therefore, you don’t need to worry about it being difficult in future.
You cannot access the recovery mode using an app from the Google Play Store. There are apps out there such as the Quick Boot app that are great for entering the custom recovery mode. However, those of you with a stock Android cannot use the app. You need to have root access to use the Quick Boot app.
Entering Recovery Mode On The Motorola Moto G 2015
- Start with the smartphone off; press the Power key once and select the ‘Switch Off’ option from the menu on the display.
- If your screen is frozen, just long-press the Power button for ten seconds and the Moto E will eventually turn off.
- Press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys for 4 seconds and then let go of the keys.
- Use the Volume keys to scroll through the menu.
- Highlight the Recovery Mode option from the list.
- Confirm you want to enter that mode by pressing the Power key.
- Job done; you can now use any option from the recovery menu. For example, you can scroll using the Volume keys and confirm a factory reset using the Power key.
Once you are finished doing the job you intended from the recovery mode, you can go back and choose the ‘Reboot System Now’ option from the menu. Now the device will boot back up in the normal OS mode and you can continue using the device like you were before entering the recovery mode.
