Android 5.0 Lollipop started rolling out for the first batch of Motorola and Google Nexus devices last year. It’s now only installed on just over 1% of Android devices world-wide, with many more likely coming soon. That means a great deal of you should be looking to make use of the many new features inside like the tap and go NFC payments.
The extra features from KitKat to Lollipop apart from tap and go include Android Beam, Android RunTime, device sharing, material design user interface, material design app drawer, picking up where you left off with songs and photos, burst mode and other camera updates, new battery saving mode, smart notification, improved security, new Quick Settings and more. One of the features is called Guest Mode which gives your Android device better multi-user and device sharing capabilities. I’ll show you how to use the new feature after the jump.
1. Swipe down the notification bar with your finger.
2. Select the ‘user’ icon available from the corner of the screen.
3. Select the ‘guest’ option from the list on the next screen.
4. Those of you already using guest mode before, you will get a notification asking if you want to continue from the earlier guest and start again from scratch.
5. Choose the option which best suits your description.
That’s it! The guest is now inside their own personal mode where they do not have access to any of the application you might have installed from Google Play and no other data such as pictures, video or text messages. They will have the stock and default applications and bloatware which come preloaded with the device. It’s the same for the guest as it were for you after you opened the phone or tablet our of the box.
The same tip will work for all devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above. We are starting to see Android 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 Lollipop rolling out now. The same features will stay no matter which version you are running. Some of the devices with either the Lollipop over the air (OTA) update, or factory images including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Motorola Moto X and the Sony Xperia Z3. There is still more devices with the software update and many more coming in the next few months.
