Since 2007, the mobile smartphone has been a huge influence on technology. We all know Microsoft was behind the 8 ball with mobile technology, and as such struggled keeping up with the companies like Apple with the Apple iPhone, LG, HTC, Samsung and others.
Well, Microsoft is making a strong push for creating popular smartphones now and are gaining more market share they’ve seen since creating mobile phones.
It could be the mobile phone that influenced Microsoft to develop the Windows 8 lock screen — a feature we’ve come to know and love from smartphones.
Here is everything you need to know about disabling the lock screen in Windows 8
Disabling the Windows 8 lock screen
- Open Local Policy Editor by pressing the Windows + R command on the keyboard.
- Type ‘gpedit.msc’ from the run dialogue box.
- Tap the ‘OK’ button beneath the run box to confirm the command.
- You will now see the Local Policy Editor open. Follow this path directory: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization. Do that by clicking over the file names in order located on the left side of the display.
- The end result will have the Personalization folder open for you ready to make the changes.
- Now look to the right side of the screen, where you should see one of the options called “Do not display the lock screen”. Double-click the mouse over that option.
- Choose the “Enable” option from the new window. The option is positioned around the top left side of the display.
- Tap the “OK” button on the bottom right of the screen to confirm you want to save that option.
To avoid confusion, the option box is called “do not display the lock screen”. That means by enabling the feature, we are disabling the lock screen. It can be confusing because people see the word enable and think that it means to enable the lock screen. It means to enable the disable box. In tern, you are disabling the lock screen by choosing this option.
