When iPhones first came out many of us really liked being able to choose between portrait and landscape modes. To do it was simple: turn the iPhone so it’s facing the way that you want it, and the iPhone will use its automatic sensor to adjust and put it the way it should be facing. For example, if I was holding my handset straight up and down and I wanted to hold it long ways instead it would automatically rotate into the landscape mode.
Sometimes, though, that isn’t always a practical solution. When people shoot video clips on the run and they might be moving down a hill and they always want the person’s face on the screen. Normally the phone would have to swap and change from landscape to portrait on the go and vice versa.
Now, however, after downloading and installing Horizon — Horizontal Videos, it won’t switch abruptly from one to the other. Instead, it will continuously still shoot the video clip so you don’t miss any time. When the camera is on a horizontal angle it will still stay on the screen so it’s easy to capture special moments and so you don’t have to edit out the camera rotation. Using the application will also result in better videos being made because now people aren’t consciously thinking about stopping it from rotating like they would be before.
Horizon is available from the app store free for a limited time. The usual price is $1.99 so get in quick to download your copy free. The app was updated on the 31st of January 2014 which brought it up to version 1.1. The file size is 2.9 MB, and it’s designed to work on the iPhone and the iPad.
I use this app myself because I spend a lot of time at the beach so filming waves and surf conditions is quite common for me. I don’t use it on the iPad at all because that would look a bit silly for me to carry it around the sand and cliffs, but the option would work just the same. It would arguably be even better on the iPad because of the bigger size.
Compatibility: Requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPad Wi-Fi (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi (4th generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation), iPad mini Wi-Fi, iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini with Retina display Wi-Fi + Cellular, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
A lot of new apps don’t give the luxury of being available on older devices. Here they have not only made it to be used on iPhone’s as old as the iPhone 4S, but they also enhanced what could be done on them by introducing HD recording for older devices in the new 1.1 update.
