With the recent announcement of Android 4.1 updated OS, many users are wondering how to download and install it on Galaxy Nexus (GSM) mobiles that are running Android Jelly Bean. Well if you are lucky enough to own the Galaxy Nexus GSM variant, the good news is that the Android 4.1 update is available and can also be flashed on the Google-branded smartphone via ClockworkMod Recovery. Yay.

A clever little developer who goes by the name of bigxie over at XDA Developers discovered the method. Thanks to his hard work we are able to present you with how to get it done.

Download Android 4.1 Jelly Bean On Galaxy Nexus (GSM)

Before you begin please ensure:

  • You are using the Galaxy Nexus (GSM) only. This method will not work for other devices.
  • Your device must be rooted and must also have ClockworkMod Recovery installed.

Step 1. First you will need to download the following files which can all be found HERE:

  •  Jelly Bean Image
  • Root Fix
  • Radio

Once you have downloaded all the necessary files place them in the root directory of your device.

Step 2. Boot your device into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this you will need to switch the device off then hold down ‘Volume Down’ + ‘Power’ buttons until the screen flashes onto CWM.

Step 3. At this stage it is important to take a nandroid backup of the device.

Step 4. Now wipe the data on your device from the CWM main menu. You will then need to perform a factory reset then wipe the Dalvik cache.

Step 5. Once this is completed you need to select ‘install zip from sdcard’ followed by ‘choose zip from sdcard’. Select the downloaded Jelly Bean zip from step one that should be located on your sdcard.

Step 6. You will need to repeat the process in step 5 but this time select the radio file downloaded in step 1.

Step 7. Repeat step 5 one more time, selecting the root fix file from step 1.

Step 8. When all three of the downloaded files have been flashed onto your device you just need to reboot it. This can be done directly from the CWM main screen.

Your device will boot straight into Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
