The Photos app that comes with Windows 10 is a big step up from the older Photo Viewer. It takes a while to get to know how to properly make use of it, but once you do you will be able to use the Photos app for quickly locating the photos you have in albums, easily importing photos from an external hard drive, adding extra folders, copying and sharing photos on the go and in just a few clicks, using a PowerPoint-esque slideshow to show off your albums to friends, additional buttons for enhancing photos (including an option to remove red eye from faces), and a bunch of other essential editing tasks that many people need from a modern-day operating system.

The Photos app’s default mouse functionality allows you to use the scroll wheel to scroll up or down and view other photos in the album. What’s more, if you were to hold down the Ctrl key and scroll with the mouse wheel, you would also zoom in and out.

If you want, you can change the default action of the mouse wheel for the Photos application so your rotating mouse wheel will either scroll through pictures or zoom in and out. If you choose to keep the setting on scrolling through photos, then you can always still use the Ctrl key + scrolling with the mouse wheel to zoom in and out still.

Here is what you need to change the Photo app mouse wheel’s default action from scrolling through pictures to zooming in and out or vice versa.

How to Change Default Action of Mouse Wheel for Photos App in Windows 10

You can change the default action of the mouse wheel when using the Photos app in the Photos app settings menu. Here is how to do that:

1. Open the Start menu and Photos app.

2. Click on the three-dotted See More icon.

3. Click on Settings from the menu.

4. Under the Viewing and Editing heading, select either View next or previous item or Zoom in and out under the Mouse Wheel subheading.

The default setting in Windows 10 is for the mouse wheel to be set to zooming in and out when you scroll with the wheel, though many may prefer the mouse wheel to view the next and previous images instead.

In conclusion, that is how to change the default action of the mouse wheel in the Photos app in Windows 10.
