Sammy is releasing masses of the devices this year, but one that still stands out is the Samsung Galaxy S5. The S5 came out for Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Virgin Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, U.S. cellular, Boost Mobile and the one for the guide we have here today namely T-Mobile. Do not try to install this firmware on any other phone carrier network since it will not work and can result in data loss and corruption.
It’s peculiar Sammy are still using the 4.4.2 KitKat and not a newer build such as the later 4.4.4 that the Moto G is running. Nevertheless, they have their reasons internally and this is what people are witnessing rollout OTA to devices. If you are yet to receive the system notification alerting you that the new software update is ready to be installed, or you are running a Custom ROM with root access, you will enjoy flashing the file manually like we have here today.
- You should know that using a custom recovery image will result in a factory reset. Resets erase all content, data and settings from the handsets that were applied after use. That means unless you backup the data there is no way of getting it back. Therefore, you should use the smartphones internally or external memory options to make sound copies of the market applications installed from the Google Play Store, phone contacts of your family and friends, picture, music and other vulnerable data.
- The tutorial after the jump uses the official Odin tool made by the truthful Samsung developmental team. In spite of this, they do not cover instructions for people using laptops and computers running on Mac OS X or Linux-based operating system. The flashing must be done from a Windows-based machine. Potential Flashing works using different tools and applications available from XDA if you do not have access to Windows XP through to Windows 8.
- Installing custom ROMs and opening the OS up with root access voids any withstanding manufacturers warranty. However, restoring stock firmware again like we have here will make the warranty work again because the flash counter rewinds back to zero. That means the work you previously achieved will go undetected.
- As I mentioned beforehand, the steps work with Windows OS. In addition, you will need either a computer, notebook or tablet with a working USB slot so we can make a fruitful connection between the two units. There are more means we need to make sure are happening for success.
- Moreover, you need to have the up to date USB drivers. Once installed, turn the handset on and navigate your way to the Settings application > Developer options > Enable USB Debugging mode. Now we have all we need for a positive connection.
- The Galaxy S5 is a fantastic smartphone that comes with a big display, Extremely high pixel density screen, Quad core processor, Fast mobile data support, Water-resistant, NFC, Lots of RAM and has a High-resolution display. Correspondingly, our favorite feature of all for today is the USB charging. With the charging option working we do not worry about the battery draining or running out, because as long as it’s plugged into the computer the battery is on the way up. If the mobile turns off during the steps it is risky and can lead to soft-bricking. However, we don’t have to worry about any of that with USB charging. If you know that USB charging isn’t working, please make sure you have at least 55% battery charged before starting. Turn the phone on and look at the battery icon in the status bar across the top of the display to check the level.
- Meticulously read the steps before you perform each operation.
- Check the model number on the ‘About’ menu and verify you are using the T-Mobile G900T variant. Do not proceed if the writing on the display labels a different model.
- The Odin tool is useful for people of all ages who own smartphones. However, if you have no experience flashing files manually, we recommend finding somebody who has to help you along the way. For first time users the stages are daunting and the price you pay for mistakes is costly. If you have no experience and don’t want to risk harming the device please do not continue.
