Android Lollipop 5.0 started reaching consumer handsets last November and, although a great, functional OS, several problems existed within it that have been addressed in a new 5.1 update. The update has already reached Android One phones in Indonesia and the Philippines. The Cherry Mobile One and the MyPhone Uno, two new Android one devices in the Philippines, have both been found to be running the 5.1 update. This is a sure sign that more Android devices will receive the major update in the next month or so.
The jump straight to 5.1 instead of 5.0.3 suggests a litany of changes that will be somewhat noticeable in Lollipop. A recent leak provided a list of the changes that will be coming to Android Lollipop in the 5.1 update. A silent mode has been added, to the joy of many Lollipop users who missed that feature. Additionally the general system stability will be seeing improvements with the 5.1 update.
The most interesting point is the battery consumption and management. A great deal of people suffer from bad battery power after updating the operating system and they think that means a bug. That’s not always the case. While it’s true sometimes bugs can cause severe battery draining issues, it’s common to have a weaker battery after software updates because the battery isn’t tuned into the new software version yet. Now that we are seeing a future 5.1 Lollipop, that gives the Mountain View developers a chance to fix that issue.
