A brand new Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update receives certification for the Sony Xperia E1 smartphone namely 20.1.A.0.45 and it follows on from the E1 Dual handset that received similar treatment last week. We mentioned in this post about the Dual that we expected the OTA update certified for the standard E1 smartphone very soon and here it is going through the PTCRB website.
The Android 4.4.2 software is made famous for its white status bar icons, transparent status and navigation bars, immersive mode, cloud printing, full screen album and movie art available on the lock screen, color Emoji support, updated landscape keyboard and more.
Furthermore, inside this update we expect the new app to SD feature joining the list. Other devices to have already seen the feature included the Xperia T2 Dual and Ultra smartphones. In addition, there may be some bug fixes and performance enhancements.
Since this is only a note to let others know it is under certification, it hasn’t started rolling out to devices just yet. However, we expect the OTA to arrive to selected handsets starting any day now. These updates roll out in stages so it won’t reach all of you at the same time. It can be days or even over a weeks gap between first and last.
As soon as you start seeing the notification arrive over the air please leave a comment so we can inform our readers that it is happening. Also, tell us everything you notice that is different.
All of you will receive a notification alerting you that it’s ready when it comes. If you don’t want to download and install it straight away that is fine. However, you will have to navigate the keys to Settings > About phone > Update Center and choose to install it that way. Alternatively a manual file could become available, in which case we’ll provide the write-up on how to achieve that at a later date.
