A new software update is rolling out in Europe for Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone owners. The build number is 23.0.1.A.5.77. The total file size is over 127 MB. Sony are not providing any official changelog along with the release. You will find a notification alerting you of its arrival via the Sony Update center. Furthermore, you can opt out and put it on hold for later. Those wishing to install it later can navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Check For Updates.

Although we don’t know what’s inside the new firmware, people are complaining of a battery drain issue after updating. Funnily enough, Sony are also rolling out a fresh Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the build number 23.0.1.A.5.79. We think the new software is bringing bug fixes for the older “77 build. There is no official changelog for either release.

As you know, all the talk is about Android 5.0 Lollipop now and when each device is receiving theirs. We still don’t have an exact date, but we think it’s coming for the Xperia Z3 series and the Galaxy S5 series in the United States soon. It’s all about fixing known bugs, adding Google security patches and creating a smoother and faster ROM until then. Don’t expect much by the way of new features for the last stages of 4.4.4 KitKat after you already have the revamped phone dialer, the OpenSSL security fix and a bunch of Sony native upgrades to the apps including PlayStation 4 Remote Play.

Have you received the 23.0.1.A.5.77 software update on your phone? Let us know the comments when you know about the installment. I remind you that as soon as you become eligible for the new firmware, you can tap the ‘download” and “install now” buttons from the device display. Alternatively, you can go back and check through the settings for when you are with WiFi. Do not confirm the installation using the mobile data plan to avoid unwanted data charges and high network traffic.
