HTC is releasing a brand new smartphone into their lineup namely the Desire Eye. An unusual name for a phone, the eye label could be in reference to the twin 13 megapixel cameras it holds on the front and rear of the shell. Normally we see the rear-facing snapper with much more power than that of the front-facing camera that is usually for ‘selfies’ only. So much, in fact, that we are witnessing dedicated ‘selfie’ cameras come out today with only 5 MP on the front. Those five are usually very strong for a camera mounted on the front.

Moreover, when we compare that to the current market trend setters we learn that the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 2.1 megapixel cam, the HTC One M8 has 5 MP and the iPhone 6 comes with a measly 1.2 on the front. You know what they say: you can’t always just assess the specs when determining what will perform better. However, when it comes to the camera they do offer a great representation of what the image quality will be like.

Desire Eye

On paper, it looks to us that the Desire Eye will make a strong case when paired against other smartphones such as the new Motorola Moto X 2014 edition that is coming out now. They both have the 801 Snapdragon system chip, at a time when the 803 is alive for other top-end handsets on the market.

Many Droid fans are accusing Apple of creating the iPhone 6 Plus, since Samsung has the Note 4 coupled with the flagship Galaxy S5. It could be that Taiwan-based phone maker is arranging a similar strategy to fight off other Sammy devices in their range such as the Galaxy Alpha. We also know Sammy are preparing others, including the A5 and A3 handsets developing from the A-Series.

According to sources, the HTC Desire EYE release Date is fixed for the 8th of October in just a few days time. Making matters worse for other smartphones such as the Galaxy Grand Prime is that the Eye is coming to Indian and Chinese markets. That means the Galaxy options of the social media camera is looking dramatically less appealing before it is even released. The Eye’s specs on that ‘selfie’ Camera are triple that of the Grand Prime.

Reports from the Twitter account of Upleaks suggests the Desire Eye comes with a Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.4 GHz, quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 2,400 mAh battery, 13 MP sensors mounted on both sides, 5.2” FHD display, BoomSound speakers all backed by a waterproof case that stands up to 30 minutes water resistance.

With social media and people taking photos of themselves online making such a huge splash into today’s society, companies are doing their best to cash in on that. Hopefully it pushes the anterior cam to much greater heights compared to the cost-cutting effect we so on most phones today.
