If you are rocking one of the carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A smartphones, you should keep looking out for a new over the air software update that upgrades your operating system to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The build number for the update is G906SKSU1BOB8. There is no official changelog arriving for this OTA, but we have all the Lollipop details you should know available after the jump.

Android 5.0 Lollipop comes with the most features we’ve seen out of any Android software update since the jump from Gingerbread all those years ago (2.3 in numerical value). After tapping the ‘download’ and ‘install now’ option on the phone’s display, users will have a new material design UI, material design throughout the application drawer, lock screen notifications, smart notifications, screen pinning, a smoother ROM thanks to Android RunTime (ART) overtaking the old Dalvik idea and Tap and Go NFC payments.

You will also find multiple device sharing, camera updates, Google security updates which reportedly makes gaining root access harder, pick up where you left off with apps, photos, songs and more, a new battery saver mode with up to 90 minutes extra battery power, a Flappy Bird style Easter Egg from the About Device menu and more. All up there’s still hundreds of other features that change this version of Android from the older 4.4 Kitkat software update.

You should be aware that all OTA notifications roll out at different times for all owners. Once your device becomes eligible for the system update, you can tap the button on the display to successfully install yours. We recommend you wait until you are at home or around a stable WiFi connection to complete the installation so you are off the mobile data. If you are out and about and need to put this one on hold, you can do that by delaying the message and then navigating to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for system updates at a later time.

You shouldn’t lose any phone data such as contacts, messages, pictures or video just by accepting the update. However, if you want to do things by the Samsung book, you should use the built-in backup functionality to make copies of the data if you need to restore the same later on. Sometimes people need to press the buttons for a factory reset and if that happens you will lose the data. Such cases are unlikely to happen for most people.

Let us know in the comments if your LTE-A device has the latest Lollipop version installed and what you think.
