The official CyanogenMod 12 is rolling out now to a number of smartphones and tablets. The new custom ROM update builds around the latest version of Android Lollipop. Some devices are finding it coming as 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 depending on what’s available for your model. We are already developing tons of guides for each device as they come to us from the team.
As I’m sure you all know, Lollipop is the successor of KitKat. We didn’t see many features coming out for the last two stages of KitKat. Apart from the white status bar icons, white navigation bar icons, immersive mode, wireless cloud printing, new emoji faces, full screen movie and album art from the lock screen, there hasn’t been many features since Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. Android 4.4.4 KitKat gave us a slightly revamped phone dialer with a new font and different shade of blue. As people started getting restless for more features, we told them to wait patiently for Lollipop which is delivering stacks of new features. The Mountain View company didn’t let us down.
The official Android 5.0 Lollipop comes with the new material design user interface, material design added to the application drawer, smart notification with a do not disturb feature and other tweaks available from the lock screen, Android RunTime, tap and go for NFC, Android Beam, a new Easter Egg which plays like Flappy Bird and loads more. In addition, you can pick up where yu left off with music, apps, photos and more, use multiple device compatibility, updates to the camera, extra security features making it harder for root access, new Quick Settings and of course a smoother ROM performance making it outshine the earlier version.
So what’s new in the latest CyanogenMod 12 based on the same Lollipop? A neat collection of features including the AOSP Browser, New Messaging app, Double-tap to sleep, CM System profiles, Brightness control, new mode for left-hand people, tweaks for the phone dialer, Ambient display, CM file manager and the AudioFX. In addition to that bunch, we have the exclusive CM wallpapers, louder ringtone, notification count, volume key tweaks, a sound recorder, material design music player, Trebuchet launcher and battery percentage available from the status bar.
The official CyanogenMod team are upping the ante and delivering stacks of features that are enhancing their reputation for features nearly as much as stability. There are still some bonus features which we didn’t mention from the list such as the advanced reboot menu for booting the device of your choice into recovery mode. You’d normally expect that functionality to come from an application. Then there’s extra privacy settings with a Blacklist option so you aren’t ever bothered by them again, privacy guard, a performance control for the CPU so that you can tweak the power and more.
An interesting feature which I have on my iPhone 4S is the “wake on plug” which turns on the phone or tablet display when you plug-in the USB charger. Why is that important? Well, it helps verify that it’s plugged in properly so you don’t have to waste your time looking at the cable.
Leave comments what you thoughts on the new ROM. We are making a great deal of how-to guides for installing latest custom ROM.
