I spent most of this morning finding out as much information as I could on the new G900TUVU1ANE5 firmware update and I released a post here explaining all of it. Part of that writing explains how the updated has stopped rolling out. According to big time Android blog Android Police, the update was paused so that no more people would be receiving it OTA until a data speed bug was fixed. That still has not been fixed yet to our knowledge and it will leave lots of people hopefully using guides like this one here just to forget about waiting for the automatic method. It isn’t working via Samsung Kies either. If you did try to install it via Kies then remember to disable Kies before starting this guide to limit the chances of it interfering with the Odin tool.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5

Updated May 23 @ 8:30 PM EST

“The Samsung Galaxy S 5 Software update to G900TUVU1ANE5 via OTA or Kies has been paused. This post will be updated when further details are available.”

“It appears that many users are having major download issues after updating to yesterday’s ANE5 update. Once the update is applied, download speeds are reduced to 1MB. T-Mobile may even have pulled the update. – Michael Aybinder, XDA”

Checklist

  • As usual I will run you through everything that is worth knowing before you start the tutorial. If you are familiar with everything then by all means just skip ahead and download the files given in the links below this point. For the rest of you, however, it will be a great idea to read the pre-requests so you don’t get caught off guard and wished you had of done something before hand that you didn’t. One thing that immediately comes to mind is backing up and I will run through that in more detail shortly.
  • This step by step guide is provided for the Samsung galaxy S5 G900 only and no other device. Failing to understand this can result in bricking of the other device that you tried to install this file on. Software of all kinds is very case-sensitive and you can’t just go around attempting to install files on handsets that it wasn’t made to be used with. To check what model number your device is look on the box. If you have thrown out the box look on the back cover. If you still can’t see it go into the Settings menu and then the ‘About Phone’ followed by device model number and check that it matches.
  • Backing up the data is important as I mentioned before. After you buy a smartphone you install data such as contacts, apps, settings that have been adjusted since the default settings, call logs, SMS history and more. There ‘re many different ways to back up a smartphone and if you already have a preferred method then go right ahead and use it. If not I will offer my advice to use the S5 internal memory. The S5 starts off with 16 GB of built-in storage space and 10 GB of that is already used by the Android OS. Naturally that doesn’t leave a great deal of space left to use and if you are somebody who stores a lot of photos, music or video then you might not have any left to back up. The simple solution here is to delete as much content as you can that you don’t need anymore and hopefully this provides enough extra space. If not, Sammy also give an extra 128 GB of space available from external storage options such as the microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC. These expansion memory cards already have existing slots for them installed with the device by the cards themselves have to be bought from the store. Lots of places sell them including electronic stores, eBay and phone stores.
  • With a guide, we will use a tool called Odin. Odin is made officially by professional Samsung developers and it is a great way to flash firmware, ROMs and get root. However, the Sammy team have only made it from the Windows operating system ranging between XP and Windows 8. That means that if you own nothing but Mac or Linux-based machines you need to seek a Microsoft Windows loving friends for at least ten minutes and borrow theirs instead.
  • I can tell you that the S5 is a smartphone that comes with Android 4.4.2 TouchWiz UI, so this being a newer version of the same thing means there is not much new to users that they already don’t know. I went into further detail and a specific SMS and MMS bug that is fixed in my other post I showed earlier.
  • Security programs are running on a Windows PC all very common because we all have been exposed to at least 1 virus when browsing the web with the Redmond groups OS. With what we are using today though it is best to disable these programs temporarily for now from the taskbar. Right-clicking most brands should give this option. If not, double click to open the menu and check from inside. The same needs to be done from the Android handset also if you are running antivirus.
  • Flashing this file will mean flashing official firmware that Samsung and T-mobile have signed off. That means it will not cause any worries about warranties still working. However, if you choose to apply root on top of the new firmware that will revoke the warranty once again.
  • From Develop Options enable USB Debugging Mode.
  • While using these instructions the device will be plugged into a PC the time. That means there is no point worrying about battery power and having an adequate amount before starting. The Sammy flagship for 2014 comes with USB charging as a connectivity feature and thus will start powering up the battery when it is plugged into the system unit all by itself.
  • Download and install the USB drivers for Samsung-based smartphones and no other brand.

How to Update Samsung galaxy S5 with UVU1ANE5 Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

1. Download the firmware file here to flash.

2. Download Odin 3.09.

If you are using anything from Vista and up download them to the C: Drive and use the search box to bring up the files before extracting the contents. This way you can keep Odin stored for next time. Otherwise, use a desktop and delete the file after you finish using it to prevent desktop clutter.

3. Run the Odin app on the computer. We want to do this before logging in the smartphone so we see it being picked up.

4. Boot the handset into Download Mode by pressing Volume Down + Power + Home buttons at the same time. Keep holding the buttons in until the Android robot logo appears on the screen.

5. Plug the S5 into the system unit of the computer by using one of the available USB ports.

6. Look for the information that says, “added” inside Odin. If this does not show up and the ID: COM port does not change color try again with new USB drivers. They may need to update or need a new source.

7. Click the AP button in the program window.

8. Upload the G900TUVU1ANE5 tar.md5 firmware.

9. Leave the default settings as they are. It is referring to all the other boxes you see inside the program. Two of them should be ticked and marked as the ‘on’ position. They are the Auto reboot and F Reset Time options. The others should already be blank and keep them blank.

10. Click the Start button when you are satisfied everything is as I mentioned.

11. Do not touch any settings until the “pass” message is displayed.

12. Close down the app on the PC.

13. Disconnect the S5 properly by right-clicking the mouse on the “Safely remove hardware” icon in the taskbar. Now stop the USB mass Storage device and unplug the mobile when it prompts you to do so.
